The Grade 10 Exam Results Release Date and Grade 11 selection process in Papua New Guinea (PNG) are important moments for students. It is when they find out if they can go to Grade 11.

The release of Grade 10 exam results and the Grade 11 selection is a three-month-long process that involves many different people, including the Department of Education, school principals, and provincial representatives.

This article will explain the timeline of events, the selection criteria, and why this process is so important for students, parents, and guardians.

2024 Exam Results, and Grade 11 Selection 2025

Timeline of Events: Grade 10 Exam Results Release Date, and Grade 11 Selection

Here is a step-by-step timeline of the key events related to the Grade 10 exam results and Grade 11 selection process:

October: National Examinations

  • Grade 10 students across PNG take their national exams in October each year.
  • The week after the exams, selected Grade 10 teachers in each province mark the exams and record the students' scores.
  • Provincial Examination Supervisors (PESs) and provincial marking committees coordinate the making in each province
  • The PES sends the Grade 10 results to the Measurement Services Division of the National Education Department in Port Moresby.

November: Data Checks and Release of PNG Grade 10 Exam Results

In November, the Measurement Services Division (MSD) of the Department of Education checks the Grade 10 students' scores to make sure they are accurate.

This is a very important step because it makes sure that the student's information is correct before the results are released to the selections.

Once the MSD has checked the scores, they release the results for Grade 10 students to the Grade 11 selection committee and also publish the results online.

December: Grade 11 Selection

Two key education entities are involved in the Grade 11 selection process: the General Education Services (GES) of the Department of Education, and school principals or provincial representatives.

  • The MSD processes the Grade 10 exam results and makes them available online.
  • The GES and principals use these results to select students for Grade 11.
  • The selection process can take up to two weeks to finish.
  • Once the selection process is finished, the GES publishes the Grade 11 selection list on the Department of Education's website.

Grade 11 Selection: Weighted-Score System vs. Circumstance

Weighted-Score System

The weighted-score system is the primary method for selecting students for Grade 11 in Papua New Guinea. Students are assigned a weighted score based on their performance on the Grade 10 national exams, with higher scores given to more difficult subjects. Students with the highest weighted scores are selected for Grade 11, regardless of their province or other circumstances.

Watch this video to find out how the Education Department uses this system to select students.

Selection by Circumstance

In addition to the weighted score system, there are several other factors that can influence the selection of students for Grade 11. PNG Insight lists the 5 main factors below.

Academic performance:

A student's academic performance on the Grade 10 national exams is still a very important factor in the selection process, even if they are selected based on circumstance.

Number of spaces available:

There are only a limited number of spaces available in secondary and national high schools.  Students may miss out on selection for Grade 11 even if they do not have the highest weighted scores.

Parental requests:

Parents and guardians can write to school principals to explain why they want their child to go to a particular school. Principals may consider parental requests when selecting students for Grade 11, but they are not obligated to do so.

Special circumstances:

In some cases, special circumstances such as family reasons or job transfers may allow principals to select students for Grade 11 at their schools. Principals may consider special circumstances when selecting students for Grade 11, but they are not obligated to do so.

Student preferences:

Students can indicate their preferences for secondary and national high schools on their School Leavers Forms (SLF). Principals may consider student preferences when selecting students for Grade 11, but they are not obligated to do so.

Significance of the Grade 10 Exam and Grade 11 Selection Process

The Grade 10 exam and Grade 11 selection process is a very important event in the lives of PNG students, parents, and guardians. The outcome of this process determines a student's eligibility to continue their secondary education and pursue their academic dreams.

For students, the Grade 10 exam and Grade 11 selection process is a crucial milestone in their academic journeys. It is a time for them to reflect on their academic progress and set goals for the future. It is also a time for them to seek support from their parents, teachers, and mentors.

For parents and guardians, the Grade 10 exam and Grade 11 selection process is a time of great anticipation and anxiety. They want their children to succeed and have the best possible opportunities for the future. However, they are also aware of the challenges that their children may face in the competitive selection process.

Conclusion

The Grade 10 exam and Grade 11 selection process in Papua New Guinea is a critical event that shapes the academic journeys of students. The transparency and fairness of this process, along with the dedication of educational authorities, ensure that deserving students receive the opportunities they need to achieve their goals in life.

The education department does not publish the exact date for the release of the exam results and the Grade 11 selection list in the Education Calendar. It only announces the date when the results and selection lists are ready. What It Means to Be in NOAS National Admission Pool (2026 Grade 12 Selections for 2027)

The Grade 12 students in PNG can check their NOAS selection status to find out if they have been selected in one of their five choices. The 2026 Grade 12 Selections for the 2027 academic year - NOAS Status Check - will be live after the Launch of Selection. That is when the Grade 12 School Leavers selection and Non-school Leavers will know the selection status, and find out if they are in the NOAS National Admission Pool. But what does that mean?

Do not fret. NOAS is an effective system that gives you a second chance. It also assists you to 're-adjust' your choices for the spaces available in the NOAS National Admission Pool. Use it before the final acceptance list PDFs are published.

DHERST NOAS National Admission Pool

It is important to confirm your selection to a higher institution as soon as you can. If you are not selected in one of your five choices, you may be put in the admission pool.

If you are a student on DHERST's admission pool, you'll have to log in to your National Online Selection Account between now and before the academic year 2027 starts to see if you have been offered a placement at a university or college in PNG.

Students in the admission pool have to hope that they are considered for 6,000+ spaces, formally called quotas.

So, keep checking to see if you are one of the lucky ones from the admission pool admitted to a university or college.

Questions about Grade 12 Selections 2024

Here are some questions PNG Insight receives about selections, GPA and Admission Pool for Tertiary Institutions in PNG. We pick three common questions that many students ask and put answers to them.

Important: Please note that the answers are based on years of experience, intended to provide clarity on the questions. It is in no way formal advice.
Q. I am not selected and I was put in an admission pull, will the DHERST select me according to my choices?
Brief answer: If you are in the DHERST Admission Pool, it means that you are likely to be considered IF there is a space available in the institution of your choice. Also, your GPA has to be higher than the other students in the pool to maximise your chance of being selected.

Q. I got a GPA of 2.6 and I was not selected by any of those five institutions where I should have been selected because I know that the nursing school's in the country have a minimum GPA of 2.4 and above. Why can't a GPA of 2.6 can be also selected?
Brief answer: Your GPA doesn't automatically guarantee you a selection to one of your 5 choices. Though it is the main selection criterion, there must be a spot available for you to be selected. Also, there are other students who may have a GPA above 2.6 applying to the same institutions, or they may have made your second choice their first choice. They have the advantage over you. In the meantime, log in to your NOAS Student Account before the academic year starts to confirm your final selection status from the Admission Pool.

Q. My GPA is 2.4 and yet I applied for teachers colleges in PNG that require a current GPA of 2.4 and above. Why I am not selected with such a GPA?
Brief answer: The current GPA of 2.8 for teachers' college is the threshold, which is the borderline GPA. If you have a GPA close to the borderline GPA, you are last in the queue during the actual selection and also last in the queue in the Admission Pool. It's sad but true. Those students who have GPAs higher than the threshold with first-choice preference have a higher chance of being selected than those sitting at the borderline GPA.

Grade 12 Selections 2027 NOAS Status Check

As you read the three questions, you may have realised that the best thing to do is to get the five choices on NOAS right - spot on.

For now, if you are in the DHERST Admission Pool, make sure you check your status regularly to see if there are any changes to your selection status.

Also, check the final lists that come out on the DHERST website.

The institution you apply to will publish its acceptance lists. You should check that too.

All in all, your NOAS student account is the right place to confirm your selection. If you have any questions about selections, please leave a comment below.

Non-School Leavers Selections Lists 2027

Read the latest on Exams, Exam results and Grade 11 Selections on PNG Insight, follow the links.

PNG Insight has covered this topic extensively in the past four years. It has been a source of information for the Grades 10 and 12 students in the country.

You can watch the video on the PNG Insight YouTube channel or the embedded video below. It shows Grade 10 and Grade 12 students how to login to the PNG Exam Results website and what to do with their results.

What does My PNG Exam results website do?

The PNG Exam Results website is an online platform for checking the Grade 10 and Grade 12 provisional exam marks. It also has the capability for MDS data officers and provincial exam coordinators can input data into the system - but these functions have not been fully utilised at present.

The online results website started in 2018. This year will be the 5th year running.

In brief, exam data sheets enter the MSD office after marking Grade 10 and Grade 12 exams and also from the schools in the country. The Students' Data from the internal school-based assessments and external examinations are manually entered, checked, re-checked and finalised for the final Grade 10 and Grade 12 results.

It is intensive work that the MSD officers and schools do to ensure all the marks, grades and certificates are ready.

My PNG Exam Result Website (www.mypngexamresults.com)

An external developer controls the backhand of the Exam Results website. They upload the Grade 10 and Grade 12 students' examination data files to the website. This happens after MSD's checks and balances. It is the final step before the students can check their results online.

MSD does most of the work as it is its responsibility.

Notably, the website's URL does not have .gov.pg like the NDoE website (www.education.gov.pg) and other government departments do.

As mentioned, the platform belongs to the NDoE and houses the Grade 12 and Grade 10 examination data. But, hosted on a different WEB-HOST and URL.

It is a matter for the education department to localise the HOST and URL. Hence, localising the students' data.

When is PNG Grade 10 and Grade 12 results coming out?

From past experience, the Grade 10 and Grade 12 results usually come out at the same time, in December every year. It is a time-bound activity that the education department (NDoE) had to get it right so that the higher education department (DHERST) could do the Grade 12 selection on time.

MSD gives the results to the Grade 11 selection committee and DHERST. They will use the results for the 2026 Grade 11 selection and Grade 12 selections.

The students can access their PNG Exam Results 2025 when (as soon as) the Grade 11 and Grade 12 selections are happening.

As for the Grade 12 student, this is the right time to log in to NAOS and make changes to your choices - this article will help you with that!

How Does Grade 10 Selection for Grade 11 Take Place in 2026?

PNG Insight has received numerous inquiries about the Grade 11 Selection process (this is actually the Grade 10 selection for Grade 11). This article aims to clarify the current situation, based on past observations. It offers a comprehensive look into how the Grade 11 selection has evolved over the years. Please note that the timelines shared are based on past writers' experiences and observations and may change depending on the education department's present circumstances, but here are the 4 stages of the selection process:

  • Release of Grade 10 Exam Results
  • Grade 10 selection for Grade 11 takes place in Port Moresby & Provinces
  • Education Secretary Sights the Selection List
  • GES/ICT division publishes Grade 11 selection list

How Grade 10 Selection Takes Place (Highlands, Momase, Southern and NGI)

The yearly grade 10 selection for grade 11 takes place in four stages. The selections start in the provinces after the Grade 10 examinations and culminate in Port Moresby, where the results come out to students, parents, schools and stakeholders.

Stage 1: Release of Grade 10 Exam Results

The Measurement Services Division (Education Department) releases the Grade 10 results to the members of the provincial and national selection committee.

Stage 2: Grade 10 selection for Grade 11

The selection committee takes about two weeks to select new Grade 11 students for National High and Secondary Schools.

This provincial selection committee works with the General Education Services of the Education Department to do the selection in the provinces.

This year's selection dates for National Schools of Excellence and Secondary Schools are here.

Stage 3: Education Secretary Sights the Selection List

GES takes the list to the Education Secretary to sight and sign. This can take a couple of days to a week

Stage 4: GES/ICT division publishes the Grade 11 Selection list of Grade 10 students selected to Grade 11

The GES works with the ICT Division to upload the file onto the Education Department website. This is a one-day work, but it can take up to a week to complete.

The selection committee and three divisions (MSD, GES and ICT) of the Education Department work together to bring the new Grade 11 selection list to you.

So, there you have it.

2024 Grade 11 selection process and selection list PDF

When will the 2026 New Grade 11 Selection list come out?

The General Education Services (GES) of the National Department of Education and the Education Secretary will give you the answer to the question.

The Measurement Services Division will release the Exam Results for Grade 10 to the GES and Grade 11 selectors, usually in the first week of December every year.

This is Stage 1 of the 2025 Grade 10 selection for Grade 11 in 2026.

Based on past experience, the actual selection can take up to two weeks, as mentioned in this article.  This is Stage 2 of Selection, where the selectors meet in Port Moresby and finalise the Grade 11 Lists.

By stage 2, your principals and provincial education officers should have the name list of their respective schools.

How will the Education Department publish the new Grade 11 List 2026?

The General Education Services and ICT Divisions typically make the new Grade 11 selection list available in PDF format, organised by region and School.

Since last year, GES/ICT Divisions have attempted to try a *LOGIN* system, but they did not carry it through due to a lack of technical capacity, we believe.

Neither GES nor ICT said anything about it, so you just have to wait and see what happens this year.

What's Happening Right Now

Right now, we believe the Grade 11 Selection Committee is finalising the selection lists.

Parents, guardians and students will have to wait till the secretary signs and signs the Grade 11 listings for 2025 (mentioned in Stage 3); and for GES and ICT to publish the list online (Stage 4).

You know the stages and how long it takes for selection to take place.  We hope that answers some of your questions.

If you need more information, check out the links we provide in this article. This video explains how the Grade 11 selection takes place.

Grade 12 Students SLF Grace Period - Why GP is Important

The DHERST Grace Period offers a unique opportunity for current Grade 12 students to make informed decisions for their School Leavers Form (SLF). Unlike previous years, students can now adjust their choices based on their exam marks during this period.

NOAS Application Eligible Programs During the Grade Period

DHERST Online Application 2024 (NOAS LOGIN)

DHERST Online Application System (NOAS) The National Online Application System (NOAS) significantly enhances the selection process. It provides students with upfront clarity by highlighting ineligible options in red, minimizing the risk of mistakes. Students can make up to five choices, increasing their chances of getting into a tertiary institution.

Previously, the manual SLF allowed only three choices and did not permit changes after submission. Grade 12 students should maximize the Grace Period to secure a spot for 2024 at a tertiary institution.

DHERST Online Application 2023 (NAOS)

Importance of the Grace Period

The Grace Period lasts five days, during which Grade 12 students should adjust their choices. DHERST will indicate eligibility on NOAS based on examination marks.

Here’s what DHERST says about the importance of the Grace Period:

"This [Grace Period] is a crucial period where you will start making your choices based on your final grade 12 results. Ensure to access your account during the mentioned dates. If you see a red highlight in any of your five choices under 'My Choices,' this means your final result has not met the minimum program requirement set by the institution. Therefore, you must change the red highlighted choice to a different program available in your program list."

The online selection is quick. Grade 12 students have around five days to adjust their choices to more suitable ones. DHERST will not grant access to make changes after this period. The Grace Period's due date is final.

Launching 2024 Selections for the 2025 Academic Year

The online selection via DHERST's National Online Selections System (NOSS) is efficient, completing the process in just three days.

DHERST may launch the 2024 selections for the 2025 academic year the week following the Grace Period’s due date, likely on the following Tuesday, based on past trends. If all goes to plan, students will see their selection status by the announced date.

Checking Your 2024 Grade 12 Exam Marks

By now, students should know their Grade 12 exam marks, accessible through the My PNG Exam Results website. Note that DHERST does not display Grade 12 students' exam marks.

NOAS, administered by DHERST, facilitates national admissions and selections into higher education institutions in Papua New Guinea. It primarily serves Grade 12 school-leaver applications.

Non-School Leaver Applicants Non-school leaver applicants must contact their chosen institutions directly and follow the respective application requirements.

Alternative Pathways

However, it's important to note that some students may explore alternative options, such as enrolling in programs like the Flexible Open and Distance Education (FODE), or in some cases, returning to their hometowns to pursue other avenues. Each student's unique circumstances and aspirations play a role in determining the path they choose.

Overall, this period is marked by anticipation and optimism as students in Papua New Guinea strive to continue their educational journey and unlock new opportunities for personal and academic growth.

Grade 10 National Exam Results and Selections

The Grade 10 national yearly exam results are usually released just before the Grade 11 Selection Conference in the first week of December.

The 2026 Selection lists for National High and Secondary Schools are likely to be published 2 weeks after the release of the results. That means that the selection committee will take a week to finalise the selection, and the education department will take another week to publish the list.

Here, we take a look at why the Education Department needs to set the publication dates for the Release of Exam Results and Grade 11 Selection ListsRead about it here.

Grade 12 National Exam Results

The Education Department, through the MS, D, will release the 2025 Grade 12 exam results to the Department of Higher Education, Research, Science, and Technology (DHERST) around the second week of December.

The Education Department (MSD) conducts the exams, coordinates marking, compiles students' exam marks and sends them to DHERST.

DHERST then uses the marks to select students for higher institutions.

2026 Grade 12 Selections Date

The Grade 12 students can check their examination results on/around December via the Education Department's (NDoE/MSD) website called My PNG Exam Results. Last year, the results came out on the 8th of December - this will give you an idea about when the exam results will be released this year.

Note that DHERST does not process the marks. DHERST usually takes less than a week to process the selection listings for tertiary institutions in the country.

It works in collaboration with universities, colleges, and other tertiary institutions to do the selection. But, first, the institutions MUST tell DHERST their quota - how many students they will accept for the academic year 2026.

So, unless the institutions provide the quotas on time, DHERST will not release the listing.

It is important to note that the higher institutions NOT sending the quotas often resulted in delays.

What to Do with Download Grade 10 Exam Results 2025 pdf?

Upon obtaining your Grade 10 or 12 exam results for the PNG 2025, it is important to prioritise securing and maintaining your exam results. Here's a step-by-step guide to ensure the proper handling of your exam results:

1. Download and Secure Your Results: Proactively download the PDF document containing your exam results. Save it securely on your personal device, either a smartphone or a computer. Avoid relying on screenshots, as they lack the permanence and authenticity required for official purposes.

2. Enhance Documentation and Credibility: Present the downloaded PDF to your parents, teachers, and school principal. Request the principal's signature and stamp to validate the authenticity of your results. These documents will be crucial for Grade 11 selections and tertiary school admissions. Obtaining the principal's endorsement strengthens your position in case of any discrepancies or inquiries.

3. Prioritise Account Security: Immediately change your My PNG Exam Results account password to a strong and unique combination that only you know. Refrain from sharing your password details or your exam results with anyone, maintaining the confidentiality of your personal information.

4. Access Support Services: If you encounter any difficulties or need assistance accessing your exam results, reach out to your family, headteachers or the National Department of Education (NDoE) for support.

What to do if you STILL need access to the MyPNGExamResults.com website?

If you cannot log in, try to interchange your surname and given name, and check your SLF number. If you have three names and have problems, try several combinations before seeking help.

If you are really stuck, one way is to go back to your school and confirm your password by checking your SLF number with your teachers or the deputy principal and the principal of your school.

Ask them to try the combination of your password and your username. After all the attempts, if you still cannot access your results, the teachers at your school, the deputy principal or the principal will have to call MSD (Measurement Services Division) and fix your problem.
