Texas Assessment and TSDS ID

In order for students to access their STAAR results, they will need to have their Texas Student Data System (TSDS) ID.

This unique identifier is assigned to every student in Texas and is used to track their academic progress throughout their educational career.

Students can obtain their TSDS ID from their school district, and it is important that they keep it safe and easily accessible, as it will be required for many educational and administrative processes.

Skyward

One platform that many Texas school districts use to manage student data and assessment results is Skyward.

Skyward provides a range of tools to help districts manage student information, including STAAR results.

With Skyward, district administrators can view and analyze STAAR results for individual students, grade levels, and campuses, as well as track progress over time.

Parents can also use Skyward to access their child's STAAR results.

Discussion: STAAR Results 2024/2025

Texas House Bill 4545 mandates schools to provide targeted instruction to students who have failed STAAR subjects.

The current reading proficiency rate of 67% is a decrease from 76%, and the state should not allow students to pass STAAR without being on grade level. The current STAAR testing and accountability system presents a challenge for students and schools alike, particularly in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.

With the changes to STAAR question types in 2023, students may experience lower scores until they become familiar with the new format. Additionally, online STAAR testing has already resulted in lower scores compared to paper testing, and the TEA is discussing changes to the A-F accountability system due to concerns about "disconnect" between district ratings and graduation rates.

There is a proposal to weigh campus outcomes in district ratings based on student population, which could lead to an increase in C ratings and a decrease in A and B ratings.

Teachers have been instructed to follow a specific curriculum with no supplement, flexibility, or deviation. It will be interesting to see how the STAAR 2023 results compare between schools using this curriculum and those that are not.

Conclusion

The TEA has provided a detailed reporting timeline to help districts plan and make decisions based on the available data.

By using platforms like Skyward and ensuring that students have their TSDS ID, districts can easily access and analyze STAAR results to improve academic outcomes for all students.
