2024 Australia Awards PNG How to Apply

Australia Awards Scholarships, formerly known as Australian Development Scholarships (ADS), provide opportunities for people from developing countries, particularly those countries located in the Indo-Pacific region, to undertake full-time undergraduate or postgraduate study at participating Australian universities and Technical and Further Education (TAFE) institutions.

Before you apply for Australia Awards 2024

• Check the opening and closing dates for your country, and select your country of citizenship/residency from the list of participating countries for specific information on eligibility, priority areas and how to apply. See the participating countries page for opening and closing dates.
• If you intend to apply, you must read the Australia Awards Scholarships Policy Handbook. The handbook provides information including general eligibility requirements, selection processes, entitlements and responsibilities. Note that the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade may revise and update the handbook at any time without notice.
• Some countries encourage and allow you to apply online while others require hard-copy applications. See your participating country profile for more information.

Applying online  - www.australiaawards.org.pg application 2024

Go to the Online Australia Scholarships Information System (OASIS). When you register online, you will be required to answer some questions to establish your eligibility. You will then be given a unique registration number, username and password.

You do not need to submit your application immediately. You can set up a draft application form and update it, and your supporting documentation, until the designated closing date as on the relevant participating country profile.

Once submitted, your application cannot be changed. We strongly advise applicants applying online to do so well before the closing date. OASIS experiences peak usage in the days leading up to the closing date and applicants may experience delays.

Applying by mail

If you are unable to submit your application online, you can apply by mail. Please check your participating country profile for contact details to obtain a hardcopy application form and any other templates such as referee reports (if applicable).

Completed hard copy application forms and supporting documentation must be submitted by the deadline specified by your country. See the opening and closing dates for each country.

Good practises when doing GCSE maths exam

Skim through the exam papers from the cover page to the last page and every other page in between.

The marks next to the question give you an idea of how many steps are required in the solution. Where there are 3 marks, show all the working out.

• Cross out any mistake neatly.
• Include the units where required.
• Check the time every 20 or 30 minutes.
• Work through the easy questions, do not spend too much time on the hard question.
• Check that your answers are reasonable. If you work out the value of x, make a substitution to confirm the value is right.
• If you have time in the end, come back to the hard question and attempt it.
• Check and double-check every question in case you missed any before handing in your maths exam paper.

What exam markers are looking for

A clear and logical flow of work is an important factor as far as marking exam papers are concerned. Remember examiners are marking thousands of questions.

So, if your work is clear, logical and reasonable, the markers will have fun marking them. That means that you are likely to get full marks.

• Show the right answer clearly.
• Draw neat graphs and label them accurately.
• You must strive to do the following when answering the GCSE maths exam questions.
• Set out your work so that it is logically so that it is easy to follow and understand.

Show your working out clearly and logically. Where there are 3 or more marks, do not only write the answer.

PNG Government Scholarships: What Does TESAS, AES, HECAS and HELP Mean?

Students TESAS (Tertiary Education Student Assistance Scheme) Award Status indicates the type of PNG govt scholarship offered to students. It is a merit-based award. 

AES is awarded to the best-performing students (with a high GPA).

The number of scholarships available to continuing students (and new intakes) is determined by the availability of govt funding and HEIs GPA cut-off, yearly. Details of funding and GPA for each HEI in the country are the work of DHERST. Here are some guides to TESAS and GPA.

TESAS: AES & HECAS Stats that matter

We kept some 'stats that matter' based on the TESAS Award list for New Intakes over the years. Here is the stat for the TESAS Awards for Continuing Students in 2021.

• 82 Continuing students on AES 
• 6779 Continuing students on HECAS 
• 6861 Total Students on TESAS

Note: The figures do not include the NEW INTAKES. 

The DHERST Selection List for New Intakes was released a day after the Continuing Students TESAS Award List. Read about the NEW INTAKES 'stats that matter'. 

Some HEIs have not submitted their continuing students' GPAs to DHERST. Those institutions are not included in the TESAS list released by DHERST.

Some HEIs have not submitted their Continuing Students GPA lists for the 2021 academic year. Students who are attending those institutions will expect delays at the Beginning of Year Travel and TESAS payments.

The students attending those institutions should call the Students' Admin for more information. 

2023 self-sponsored students who have secured a scholarship must make travel arrangements with their universities or higher institutions.

Re-admission and self-sponsored students

The advice from DHERST for students whose names are NOT on the list:

Be advised that students whose name do not appear on the list [ Continuing Students approved list] should consult your respective HEIs to confirm your progressive status for 2021. (DHERST, press release, 26/01/2021)

Why are only 6861 Continuing Students on TESAS?

Here is what DHERST said about it...

"The number of applications for TESAS Awards with a qualifying minimum GPA level is typically greater than the number of available TESAS Awards.

It should be noted that some program admission requirements of institutions might include a different weighted consideration of grades and/or prerequisite subjects with minimum grades, due to their particular academic requirements. As such, Awardees are selected within program quotas on a merit basis. This means that not all applicants with a qualifying GPA level will receive an award." (DHERST, website)

Another reason is that the 2021 TESAS award list does not include some HEIs (Higher Education Institutions) that did not submit the student GPAs to DHERST. And their students may not have been included in the official list released on the 26 of January 2021.

TESAS PNG Govt Scholarship Funds

In a National Newspaper report, the secretary for higher education said that they only received K36 million (out of the K68 million required TESAS funding) for 2021. The question was why half of the required TESAS fund?

In 2020, the PNG govt, through DHERST, implemented the students' assistantship scheme - the Higher Education Loan Program, or HELP. The same year, the govt allocated K220 million to fund HELP.

The higher education secretary said

... 6,637 students applied for HELP this year [2020] and K28,109,457 was paid by the Government.

How do students apply for HELP?

HELP aims to enhance the quality of higher education. The studentship program also aims to ensure access to undergraduate and postgraduate degrees is available to eligible students.

Firstly, students must demonstrate that they are enrolled in a registered institution to apply. This program is led by the DHERST with data and input from the HEIs in the country.

Students who wish to apply for this loan should complete the HELP Application Form. See your HEI/Student Admin for more info. That means all students (both continuing and new intakes) should register at a HELP-participating institution.

Then, see your students' admin/support staff and complete the application form. The respective HEIs will launch the forms, on your behalf, with DHERST and let you know of the outcome.

CFA Exam Results and Pass Rates

You will receive a result of "pass" or "fail" along with information on your topic-level performance. Candidates who pass Level III will not receive detailed results.)

Candidates can use the CFA Institute exam performance guide to help them interpret their result reports. 

CFA Institute will notify you when your official exam results are available. After candidates receive their CFA exam results, they may register for the next exam. 

CFA encourages candidates who do not pass to use the exam result information to guide their studies and to re-take the exam at a later date. 

Candidates can take as much time as they need before registering for the next exam.

CFA Exam Results Date

The results for the CFA Level I and II exams are available within 60 days of the exam date and within 90 days for the CFA Level III exam.

Individual candidate results are released only to the candidate and are never released to a third party; however, lists of passing candidates are provided to societies for membership purposes.

Detailed exam scores and responses to exam questions are measurement information and part of a candidate's test record, both of which are owned solely by CFA Institute. This information is not given to candidates.

CFA Exam Results

Exam results are expected to be available approximately 8-10 weeks after the close of an exam window for Level I/Level II, and approximately 10 weeks for Level III. 

After all testing is completed and the exam window closes, CFA Institute begins conducting a thorough analysis of exam questions/candidate performance to identify the minimum passing score (MPS) that represents basic competence in the subject matter. 

For Level III grading, hundreds of CFA charterholders will participate in an essay grading event. The Board of Governors will then convene to approve the MPS. Rigorous quality control processes and data quality review steps are completed to ensure results are presented accurately to all tested candidates. 

Candidates will receive periodic messages to keep them updated on the progress of exam results, and additional information will be published to this page as it becomes available.

CFA Exam Minimum Passing Score

After each exam administration, the CFA Institute Board of Governors sets the minimum passing score (MPS) for each level. 

The purpose for this approach is to ensure fairness to candidates across administrations as the difficulty of each test is taken into account when setting the MPS. CFA Institute does not release the MPS or individual candidate scores.

*Exam results are available for approximately one year after the test date. After this date, candidates may prove their status with CFA Program by generating and downloading a verification letter from the Verification Letter section in their Account Profile. 

The verification letter will confirm a “pass” or “fail” exam result, but the topic area performance summary will not be available.
