When Will STAAR Results Be Released 2023? - August 2022

Texas Assessment and TSDS ID

In order for students to access their STAAR results, they will need to have their Texas Student Data System (TSDS) ID.

This unique identifier is assigned to every student in Texas and is used to track their academic progress throughout their educational career.

Students can obtain their TSDS ID from their school district, and it is important that they keep it safe and easily accessible, as it will be required for many educational and administrative processes.

Skyward

One platform that many Texas school districts use to manage student data and assessment results is Skyward.

Skyward provides a range of tools to help districts manage student information, including STAAR results.

With Skyward, district administrators can view and analyze STAAR results for individual students, grade levels, and campuses, as well as track progress over time.

Parents can also use Skyward to access their child's STAAR results.

Discussion: STAAR Results 2024/2025

Texas House Bill 4545 mandates schools to provide targeted instruction to students who have failed STAAR subjects.

The current reading proficiency rate of 67% is a decrease from 76%, and the state should not allow students to pass STAAR without being on grade level. The current STAAR testing and accountability system presents a challenge for students and schools alike, particularly in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.

With the changes to STAAR question types in 2023, students may experience lower scores until they become familiar with the new format. Additionally, online STAAR testing has already resulted in lower scores compared to paper testing, and the TEA is discussing changes to the A-F accountability system due to concerns about "disconnect" between district ratings and graduation rates.

There is a proposal to weigh campus outcomes in district ratings based on student population, which could lead to an increase in C ratings and a decrease in A and B ratings.

Teachers have been instructed to follow a specific curriculum with no supplement, flexibility, or deviation. It will be interesting to see how the STAAR 2023 results compare between schools using this curriculum and those that are not.

Conclusion

The TEA has provided a detailed reporting timeline to help districts plan and make decisions based on the available data.

By using platforms like Skyward and ensuring that students have their TSDS ID, districts can easily access and analyze STAAR results to improve academic outcomes for all students.

National Remembrance Day in PNG

National Remembrance Day, observed on the 23rd of July each year, is a significant public holiday in Papua New Guinea.

The day is dedicated to honouring the brave men and women who lost their lives during various conflicts, particularly in World War I and World War II. It serves as a solemn reminder of the sacrifices made by Papua New Guinea's military personnel and civilians to defend their nation and preserve peace worldwide.

On this day, ceremonies are held across the country, with wreaths laid at war memorials, and citizens observe a minute of silence to pay their respects to the fallen heroes.

National Day of Repentance

The National Day of Repentance is another notable public holiday in Papua New Guinea, observed on the 26th of August each year.

Unlike National Remembrance Day, this day carries a more religious significance. It is a time for the people of Papua New Guinea to engage in reflection, prayer, and penance. The day is dedicated to seeking forgiveness for past wrongdoings and transgressions, both on a personal and national level.

Communities come together in churches and other places of worship to participate in special services, seeking reconciliation and a renewed sense of unity.

Papua New Guinea Independence Day

Independence Day is yet another important public holiday celebrated in PNG. Commemorated on the 16th of September each year, this day marks the country's independence from the Australian administration in 1975.

It is a time of great national pride, with festivities, parades, and cultural events taking place throughout the country.

Independence Day signifies the birth of Papua New Guinea as a sovereign nation, and it serves as an occasion to celebrate the nation's achievements, diversity, and unity.

Significance of National Remembrance Day and Repentance Day

All in all, National Remembrance Day is on the 23rd of July and the National Day of Repentance is on the 26th of August.

While National Remembrance Day pays homage to the fallen heroes who sacrificed their lives during conflicts, the National Day of Repentance focuses on seeking forgiveness and national reconciliation through prayer and penance.

Both these days hold immense significance for the people of Papua New Guinea.

Lutheran University Council Officially Sworn In Significant Milestone for PNG Education

The Lutheran University Council was officially sworn in today in Port Moresby, marking a significant milestone for the Evangelical Lutheran Church's vision of having its own university.

The Lutheran University of PNG (LUPNG) was established in 2022 through the amalgamation of three Evangelical Lutheran institutions:

  • Balob Teachers College,
  • Lutheran School of Nursing, and
  • Martin Luther Seminary.
After 30 years of vision and hard work, the interim Council was established in May 2022 and was awaiting the formal operation of the Lutheran University Act, which came into effect in September 2022.

This blog has been following this story since PNG prime minister James Marape promised the people of Morobe a Lutheran University in January 2020.

Here is the leading story about PNG's 8th university in the making, the Lutheran University of PNG.

The Lutheran University of Papua New Guinea

Council Appointment and Priorities

The formal Council was appointed by the Chancellor of LUPNG, Dr Eric Kwa, in November 2022.

The Council comprises people from various sectors in the country, including representatives from Divine Word University, which has been a great friend of the Lutheran Church in setting up LUPNG.

The membership is drawn from the Lutheran Church's membership and other denominations that can contribute meaningfully to the establishment of the Lutheran University.

Dr Kwa stated that the immediate priorities for the Council include the progressive work on merging the amalgamated higher learning institutions.

Three different independent institutions were merged into one, and the Council has the task of working together with different interest groups to ensure that LUPNG is delivered as a single unit.

The Council has been working closely with the Department of Higher Education, Research and Technology (DHERST), including Divine Word University, to ensure the successful establishment of LUPNG.

Challenges and Reassurance

Despite the challenges that may arise from previous boards, management, students, and staff, Dr Kwa reassured everyone that the Council is not here to disrupt operations but to work with them.

He also thanked the Marape-Rosso government for recognising the Church's work in development and Lutheran Bishop Right Reverend Dr Jack Urame for his continued assistance.

Lutheran University Council Swearing-in

Obviously, the official swearing-in of the Lutheran University Council is a significant step towards achieving the Evangelical Lutheran Church's vision of having its own university.

The Council's priority in merging the amalgamated institutions is crucial in ensuring the successful establishment of LUPNG.

All in all, the establishment of LUPNG will undoubtedly contribute significantly to the development of education in PNG and provide opportunities for students to achieve their educational and career goals.
