Non-School Leaver Entrance Examinations 2023: PNG University of Technology

The Papua New Guinea University of Technology (PNGUoT) has announced the 2023 Non-School Leaver Entrance Examinations. These exams are your first step towards joining our esteemed institution in 2024. The admission tests will be held from the 28th of November to the 1st of December, 2023, at designated venues. 

Here is some information for PNGUOT Non-school leavers taking the 2023 entrance exam.


Exam Admission Requirements

To enter the exam, make sure you follow these steps:

Bring the Right Documents: You need to show the original letter from the university saying you can take the exam. Also, bring your old school ID, National ID (NID), Passport, or Driving License. Other types of ID won't work.

Pay the Fee: You must pay a K10.00 fee for the exam. Put this money into the University's Account at the BSP Lae Branch (Account Number: 1000 386580). Don't forget to show the receipt at the exam to confirm your payment.

Application Process

To apply for the UNITECH Graduate Assistantship Program Scholarship, interested candidates need to complete an application form available on the UNITECH website. 

Alternatively, contact the program officers and ask for the GAP scholarship application form.

Candidates are also required to provide copies of their certificates, transcripts, and other necessary documents.


Entry Requirements

The entry requirements for each program of study are different. Candidates applying for a doctorate degree should have a Master's degree in a field related to the proposed research, with a proven track record of research and working experience. 

Those applying for a Master of Philosophy degree should have a merit degree or postgraduate diploma from a tertiary institution. The qualification must be approved by the Postgraduate Committee, and with a relevant first degree industry experience of more than two years.

For admission to a course-based Master's program, candidates should have a postgraduate diploma from a recognized tertiary institution or a bachelor's degree from a tertiary institution in a recognized field of study appropriate to the proposed course of advanced study.

Candidates applying for a Postgraduate Diploma should have a bachelor's degree from a tertiary institution approved by the Postgraduate Committee in a field of study appropriate to the course of advanced study proposed. Final-year students are also encouraged to apply.


Application Deadline

The deadline for submitting applications for the PNG UNITECH Graduate Assistantship Program (GAP) Scholarship is usually in July of each year. Applicants are encouraged to submit their applications before the deadline to avoid missing out on this great opportunity.

After submitting an application, candidates will go through a selection process that involves a review of their academic and professional qualifications. 

The selection process is highly competitive, and only 15 exceptional candidates will be awarded the scholarship.

The successful applicants will be notified by email or phone and will be required to confirm their acceptance of the scholarship in writing within a specified period. 

Once the acceptance is confirmed, the scholarship will cover tuition fees and provide a living allowance for the duration of the postgraduate program.

Apply to Bulolo University College - Forestry: Non-School Leaver and Grade 12 School Leaver

Bulolo University College, formally the Bulolo Forestry College, is a campus of the PNG University of Technology. The institution offers programs under the Forestry Department. 

It caters to second and third-year forestry students, providing a Diploma in Forestry for those who don't meet the required grades after completing the third year. 

The college's location in Bulolo creates an ideal environment for forestry studies, fostering the personal development of students physically, spiritually, and mentally.


Programs Offered at Bulolo University College

The Department of Forestry offers a new integrated degree and diploma curriculum at Unitech and Bulolo campuses, respectively. 

The first year is common for both programs and is taken at the Taraka (Lae) campus, providing students with a foundation in basic sciences, study and communication skills, and an introduction to forestry. 

The second year, also common to both programs, takes place at Bulolo campus and focuses on forestry science and basic practical skills. 

The third year involves a semester of supervised industrial work experience, followed by specialisation in diploma and degree courses. 

The diploma course at Bulolo campus covers subjects such as silviculture, forest inventory, forest engineering, and forest policy and legislation.

2023 Non-School Leavers Application Form

Grade 12 school leavers, including DODL (Department of Distance Learning), Open Learning, Matriculation, and Overseas students, must apply through the DHESRT's online school leavers system known as the National Online Application System (NOAS). 

The application process is coordinated by the schools, and the final selections are made by DHERST based on student's performance in the national examinations conducted by the National Department of Education in October of each year.

About Bulolo Forestry College

The Bulolo Forestry College, now known as Bulolo University College, was established in 1962 with the aim of training foresters for the forestry sector and other organisations in Papua New Guinea (PNG). 

In 1995, the college was amalgamated with the PNG University of Technology and became a campus of Unitech.

2024 University of Technology Acceptance Lists: Unitech Admissions Update

From late December 2023 to early January 2024, Unitech will unveil four distinct acceptance lists for the upcoming year. These include:

  • New Intake (Grade 12 School Leavers) Selection List: Confirms admission for undergraduate studies directly from Grade 12. This will be released by DHERST
  • Online Student Selection List: Identifies chosen students who applied online (non-school leavers and continuing students).
  • Non-School Leavers Selection List: Enumerates accepted undergraduate students who are not school leavers (e.g., mature-aged, transfer students). Released by Unitech.
  • Continuing Students Progression List: Verifies continuation of studies for enrolled students advancing to the next year.
  • Re-enrolling Students: Re-admitted students' names will also be published on the  Students Re-enrollment List.

Note that the dates are based on 2019 - 2021 dates, so check your deputy principles for the latest dates

Stat P Test Fee

K100 (to be paid AFTER booking).

This fee is non-refundable. Payments are due by 25 October 2020. Late payments cannot be accepted.

Payment queries should be directed to the STAT P Officer stat-p@pnguot.ac.pg. Queries should include your full name, STAT ID and a photo of your white, printed bank receipt.

Communications with STAT Office

All applicant communications from ACER will be through the ACER Account Messaging System.

Once applicants have created their ACER Account (part of the test booking process) they will have access to this messaging system.

To access 'Messages', login into your ACER User Account and click on the 'Messages' option at the top of the page.


Emails will only be sent if a valid email address has been provided in your ACER User Account. Emails are additional to messages sent to your ACER Account Messaging System. 

You can add an email address to your ACER Account yourself. Please see the Register webpage for details. Email addresses must be successfully validated before ACER will send communications to them. 

When you add an email address to your account, the system will automatically send you an email to 'validate your ACER account'. You must click on the link in the email to validate your account.

Requirements for entry to 2022 courses

  • Grade 12 School Leavers (SLs) 2020
The PNG University of Technology (UOT) will only consider applications of Grade 12 School Leavers (SLs) who sit the STAT P test in November 2020.
  • Grade 12 School Leavers (SLs) 2020 and Pre-Service Non-School Leavers
The University of Goroka (UOG) will only consider applications of Grade 12 School Leavers (SLs) and Pre-Service Non-School Leavers who sit the STAT P test in November 2020.
  • A Pre-Service Non-School Leaver is a person who completed grade 12 in a previous year but did not gain a place at any university yet.
This test is not for postgraduate, In-service or PDGE students.

He announced this in front of thousands of Lutheran faithful at the 32nd Evangelical Lutheran Church of PNG Synod at Boana in Nawaeb, Morobe, today.

PM Marape urged the Synod to continue working on the concept of the Lutheran university.

"Please refurbish this concept of a Lutheran-based university," he said.
"We have talked about this previously, but it has slowed down.
"The Lutheran University must come to pass, as a memorial of this 32nd Synod.
"I want to throw it on the floor here, that someone in the crowd pick it up.
"Lutheran is the second-biggest church, so I ask you please, let's work on this.
"National Government will pick up the university that the church wants, and we'll get it going.
"Starting 2020, we'll work on it and Hopefully by 2025, when the nation celebrates 50 years of Independence, our Lutheran University can lift its flag up and fly, and take students in by that time.

Prime Minister Marape supported a call by Morobe Governor Hon. Ginson Saonu for the establishment of a Lutheran elementary teachers' college.

He said the Government had allocated K1 million for this. He also told the Lutheran Church to come up with a plan for a university to get Government assistance.
"We will start a 10-year programme that will create the genesis of a Christian-based education system being run in our country.
"To make this country truly identified with Christian principles, our education system must be run by Christian churches,” the Prime Minister said
He (the Prime Minister) called for closer partnership between churches and the Government in education and health.
"The Lutheran Church is the second-largest church in the country," Prime Minister Marape said.
"We (Government) are ready to work in partnership with you in the areas of health and education.
"You are already established in society; you are with the people."Our Government stands ready to embrace churches in the areas of health and education.
"These are two key services in the country that I want churches to play a bigger role in,” PM Marape said.

Very important notice

1. Applicants seeking re-admission should take note that:

i. If you have previously failed 2 time in the past year or 3 times in any of the subsequent years of you program of study then you are automatically disqualified from re-admission in that program.

ii. If you have not completed your program of study within the prescribed allowable period of completion (DEGREE PROGRAM – 7 YEARS) then you are automatically disqualified from re-admission in that program.


2. A non-refundable fee of K50 is to be deposited into:

The original bank receipt must be attached to the application form and sent to:

3. Faxed or emailed copies of the 2019 Unitech Application form for re-admission will not be accepted.

4. Application form is available on the PNG UNITECH website (http://www.unitech.ac.pg).  You can also request for an application from through the email address stated below (9).

5. Application close on the 20th of April 2019. Any application forms received after the closing date will be rejected.

6. Applicants are required to carefully read through the instructions and strictly comply to avoid outright rejection of their application forms.

7. Applicants who are caught with forged/altered documents will be blocked and permanently disqualified from ever applying to any program at UNITECH in the future.

8. The university will not accept two or more applications from an applicant.
