WELCOME TO PNG INSIGHT

SP PNG Hunters Players Where are They Now?

The SP PNG Hunters team in the Intrust Super Cup extended for another 5-year term. Many fans and followers will admit that the level of rugby league, players' fitness, humility, fans behaviour and love for rugby league in Papua New Guinea has, in the last 5 years, improved massively.

Success stories - PNG Hunters

The SP PNG Hunters concept - getting a PNG team into the Queensland Rugby League - to showcase PNG rugby league talents can be described as a success.

The next 5 years is going to be a ripper. The home games are going to be a must see. New talents are going to be exposed to the international rugby league scene.

So, where are the original PNG Hunters players? Let's have a look at some of the success stories.

Move to the United Kingdom

The former PNG Hunters five-eighth Ase Boas and his halfback brother Watson Boas have both moved to the UK club Featherstone Rovers alongside the outside centre Thompson Teteh.

Featherstone Rovers are a professional rugby league club that plays in the Championship - a second-tier competition. Similar to the QRL level before the NRL in Australia.

Forward Willie Minoga, hooker Wartovo Puara and fullback Stargroth Amean also moved to England to play with Barrow Raiders.

The Barrow Raiders are a semi-professional rugby league team in the third-tier competition.

In fact, the UK and France have a three-tier rugby league competition. Super League is like the National Rugby League (NRL) competition - the top elite league players play at that level.

The Championship comp is like the QRL or NSWRL comps. Talented players at Championship Cup would get picked to Super League.

Whereas the third-tier (semi-professional) competition is called the League 1 competition. The competition features clubs from Wales, Canada and France. It is the Rugby Football League's (RFL) third-tier competition, below the Championship.

The rugby pathway is League 1 to Championship to Super League.

Move to Queensland, Australia

Wynnum Manly is contracting the forward Rahdly Brawa and back Edene Gebbie.

Nixon Putt is marked for the Norths Devils.

Brendon Gotuno moves to the Penrith Panthers.

The PNG Hunters picks

  • Gairo Kapana, Epel Kapinias (Rabaul Gurias)
  • Shane Haro, Kevin Appo (Pom Vipers)
  • Joe Joshua, Junior Rop (Lae Tigers)
  • Daniel Tapol, Jerry Teme (Hela Wigmen)
  • Brendon Nima, Nick Hasu (Goroka Lahanis)
  • Joe Frank (Waghi Tumbe)
  • Woods Kawage (Enga Mioks)
  • Rex Kaupa (Southern Confederate)
  • Justin Yoka, Jordon Pat (Highlands Confederate)
  • Bland Abavu (Fassifern Bombers)
  • Jack Oii (PRL)

PNG Hunters loses

  • Ase Boas, Watson Boas, Thompson Teteh (Featherstone Rovers)
  • Stargroth Amean, Wartovo Puara, Willie Minoga (Barrow Raiders)
  • Rahdly Brawa, Edene Gebbie (Wynnum Manly Seagulls)
  • Brendon Gotuno (Penrith Panthers)
  • Adam Korave, Muka Peter Kulu, Junior Bobby, Clyde Name, John Andy, Julius 2Yakopa, Silas Gahuna (Released)

SDG 4 Data at Your Fingertips with New Tools from the UIS

Quick guide and tools help countries, donors, technical partners and civil society groups make the most of SDG 4 data

REPOSTED from http://uis.unesco.org (DIRECT LINK)
IMAGE AND POST http://uis.unesco.org
Where can you find the latest data to monitor Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4)? How are the indicators produced and how can they be interpreted and used? Go straight to the source with a series of new products developed by the UNESCO Institute for Statistics (UIS).

As the custodian UN agency for SDG 4 data, the UIS not only has the mandate to produce the global monitoring indicators but also to help stakeholders – from countries and donors to civil society groups and technical partners - use the findings to get all children in school and learning by 2030.

Recognising that different users have different needs, the UIS is releasing a series of new products described below at a launch event with NORRAG on 11 July in Geneva.

The Quick Guide to Education Indicators for SDG 4 describes the process of developing and producing global monitoring indicators, while explaining how they can be interpreted and used. This is a hands-on, step-by-step guide for anyone who is gathering or analysing education data.

The SDG 4 Data Book: Global Education Indicators 2018 ensures that readers have the latest available data for the global monitoring indicators at their fingertips. This booklet will be regularly updated.

The SDG 4 Data Explorer displays data by country, region or year; by data source; and by sex, location and wealth. It allows users to explore the measures of equality that are crucial for the achievement of SDG 4.

The SDG 4 Country Profiles, designed specifically for Member States, present the latest available SDG 4 global indicators in charts and graphs that are easy to understand. For those who need quick facts on specific countries, this is the place to come.

The SDG 4 Cheat Sheet is a quick reference for the definitions and data sources of the 11 global indicators.

These products aim to promote a better understanding of the production and use of SDG 4 data among stakeholders. Together, they will show stakeholders: who produces the data, how the indicators are developed, where to find the data, and – most importantly – how to use the information.

The Reason 10 Secondary School Principals Suspended - TFF

In a press release the Education Minister announced the suspension of 10 scondary school principals. Most of the schools are in the National Capital District. The 8 schools (out of 10) mentoned were :
1. Vanimo Secondary School
2. Tokarara Secondary School
3. Kilakila Secondary School
4. Gerehu Secondary School
5. Koiari Park Secondary School
6. Marianville Secondary School
7. Della Salle Secondary School and
8. Jubilee Catholic Secondary School

The reason was that those schools were beneficaries under the TFF policy, but imposed extra fees contrary to the National Education directive not to charge any other fees.

The directive in full below.

All school Principals of National and Provincial Institutions in the National Education System are reminded of the NEC Decision No. 01/2016 of 04th February 2016 that NOSCHOOL  that receives Tuition Fee Free (TFF) funding imposes any fees including project fees, church agency fees, etc. from students, parents or guardians.

The public is informed that the National Government hasn’t changed its’ Policy on Tuition Fee Free education for all children currently in schools around the country.

Schools and institutions legally operating under the National Education System that are covered by the Tuition Fee Free Policy include elementary, primary, secondary, Technical Vocational Education Training (TVET), Flexible Open & Distance Education (FODE) and Inclusive Education Resource Centers.

The Department of Education has received complaints from parents, guardians and students that school administrations and school boards have asked parents to pay fees prior to enrolment. This is against the Government policy direction, and is deemed illegimate, and against official instructions.

Parents and other Stakeholders are invited to report any particular school or institution asking for any kind of fees as a condition of enrolment to the Provincial Education Advisor, School Inspector or the Department of Education on phone 301 3437.

Parents and community members of schools may support and contribute voluntarily to improve school building and facilities to improve teaching and learning.

The Department of Education also informs Schools and Institutions that K97million withheld from 2018 will be released next week and paid into school accounts to commence the new school year.

A further K616million for this year will be disbursed on a quarterly basis. This is an increase of K15million from 2018.

All Stakeholders and parents are reminded that the 2019 School Year begins on the 21st of January 2019 for teachers and students resume classes on the 28th January 2019.

DR. UKE KOMBRA, PhD
[Education] Secretary

So, is it the Education Ministry and the National Educaton Department fair on suspension of the 8 secondary school principals?

Here is the attempt to address the question of 'Fairness'⇐.

Chinese New Year Greeting 2023 - Year of the Rat

China and particularly the Chinese (people originating from China) have been settling in Papua New Guinea both pre and post Independence. Once there were China Towns in almost every town and city. Thriving with Chinese tradition, culture and food.

Many Chinese who settled in PNG are businessmen/women. There is a new wave of Chinese migrants coming into PNG, attracted by the relaxed (not-often-policed) business regulations. Unlike the Chinese in China Towns, the new migrants are business opportunists trying to make a living in this country.

Chinese New Year 2020 Greetings to You

2020 is the year of the Rat. Rat is the symbol of wealth! To the Chinese migrants, as you grow your wealth, give the best service you can to the people of this nation. It's Yin and Yang.

Your attempt to make money/fortune out of the pocket of the poor PNG by taking advantage of its inability to police strict business rules is not the Chinese way.

If you are running a Haus Kai, cook good food and feed the people.

What is the animal for Chinese New Year 2020?

Rat

How long is the Chinese New Year 2020?

25 Jan 2020- 11 Feb 2021

What is the year 2020?

Chinese New Year this year begins on Tuesday, January 25th 2020 and ends on February 11th, 2021. The year of the Rat 2020 comes after the Year of the Pig (2019) and before the year of the Ox (2021)

What is the lucky colour for 2020?

Red, pink, and orange

To a long time Papua New Guinean Chinese, wishing you a
Happy New Year: 新年快乐 (xīn nián kuài lè).

Google Plus Shutting Down 2019

What Google said in December 2018

We announced our decision to shut down Google+ for consumers in April 2019 due to
low usage and challenges involved in maintaining a successful product that meets consumers' expectations. We want to thank you for being part of Google+ and provide next steps, including how to download your photos and other content.

Google+ account and any Google+ pages

On April 2nd, your Google+ account and any Google+ pages you created will be shut down and we will begin deleting content from consumer Google+ accounts. Photos and videos from Google+ in your Album Archive and your Google+ pages will also be deleted. You can download and save your content, just make sure to do so before April. Note that photos and videos backed up in Google Photos will not be deleted.

How long will it take?

The process of deleting content from consumer Google+ accounts, Google+ Pages, and Album Archive will take a few months, and content may remain through this time. For example, users may still see parts of their Google+ account via activity log and some consumer Google+ content may remain visible to G Suite users until consumer Google+ is deleted.

As early as February 4th, you will no longer be able to create new Google+ profiles, pages, communities or events.

See the full FAQ for more details and updates leading up to the shutdown.

Air Niugini Online Booking Domestic Special Fares 2024

Air Niugini online booking and check-in started in August 2016, yet many national and international travellers have yet to use the platform.

The reasons could be many, but one obvious explanation is that many Air Niugini passengers just do not know what they could do to get the Air Niugini special fares and check-in online.

air niugini online booking domestic special fares k44 2024
Jacksons Airport | Online Check-in Counter

This post aims to spread the word about the Air Niugini online booking domestic special fare for the 2024 holiday, and also let you know that you can skip the frustrating queues to book tickets and check-in by doing both online.

UPDATED: Latest on Air Niugini online booking and check-in, click here.

Air Niugini domestic special fares 2024

You can get special fares when booking your tickets. The best way to get the latest on special fares is to ask at the counter. Air Niugini staff are the first people to know about the fares they will give you the latest info you need.

The common special fares are:
  • Fly between provincial centres and Port Moresby from only PGK 189* one-way. For example, right now the "Fly between Goroka and Port Moresby" deal is on with a limited-time offer available.
  • Save 20% on excess baggage prepaid: Air Niugini has availed prepaid baggage to the travelling public for those who think their baggage will exceed the allowable checked.
  • Free Bonus Points: Sign up online today and earn FREE BONUS POINTS from Destinations
  • Air Niugini online booking Tuesday saver 2024: Check the Tuesday special online or ask at your nearest Air Niugini ticket sales office.

Air Niugini online booking

You must make your online check-in 24 hours - one day - before departure time.

A manager with Air Niugini clarified that

"Passengers have the advantage of selecting their preferred seats and purchasing other services such as extra legroom seats, extra baggage allowances and other products which may be on offer on the flight [...]. But first of all, you have to check in online," Mr Dominic Kaumu

Reassuringly, it is fast. To check in on your mobile devices, laptop or PC follow these steps:

1.  visit www.airniugini.com ( mobile phone users use this URL http://www.airniugini.com.pg/mobile/check-in/)

2. Enter your Last Name which is your surname,

3. Enter your booking reference number which is often found at the top of your ticket and

4. Click 'Check-in.

Once the 4 steps are complete, you'll access the Internet check-in interface. Navigate through the interface and complete the details thoroughly.

What is the difference between Air  Niugini online booking and online check-in?

Online booking is usually done before the online check-in. Customers book tickets either online or at Air Niugini's offices and agents and pay.

Payment can be made immediately or at a later time. When the customer has had the ticket, he needs to check in online to get his boarding pass before travelling.

This URL [https://dx-flights.airniugini.com.pg/dx/PXDX/#/home] links to Air Niugini Online Booking page shown below.

air niugini online booking tuesday saver 2024

In fact, both online booking and online check-in can be done without having to visit the Air Niugini office. The two processes can be sorted online.

Therefore, avoid standing in long queues to book and buy tickets, and get your boarding passes. Do these checks on the Internet 24 hours before departure. Hope this helps.

How to Access Air Niugini Destination Membership Account

To access the Air Niugini Destination Membership Account for the first time, here is what you do:
  • Go to Air Niugini Destination page/website
  • Click on Forgot Password
  • Enter your Destination Membership number or email
  • Click Submit
  • A password will be sent to your registered email address, check.
  • Now you can log in to access your Air Niugini Destination account and view your points.
Ensure that you enter 2 ZEROS before your membership number when logging in.

Problem with online check-in

The Air Niugini Online Check-in is usually slow during the peak travel period - if you have problems with check-in online, try again during the off-peak hours, especially at night or early in the morning.

If you've check-in online, go straight to the online check-in counter and show your online boarding pass. Again, it can be frustrating during the peak travelling period so be patient.

If you have a problem check-in online or at the airport, leave a comment below.
