How to Make Money Online Blog and YouTube

With the increasing access to the Internet in Papua New Guinea, many young people have the privilege others never had in the past - having access to social media, blogs and vast sources of information online.

This post is about investing your time and effort wisely on your phone and computers which will help you to make money online in the long run.

Investing time & effort

Just imagine in 5 years time you earn US$200 per month in passive income for the effort you put in now by blogging or YouTube-ing.

It's better than wasting time on social media channels that do NOT reward you for sharing your ideas.

How to make money online

Start A Blog - Earn Money Online

A good way to utilise Internet access is to talk about our beautiful country, your passion and things that interest you.

Start your own blog for free, an example is this blog. The reward (money you make) depends on the visitors to your blog.

In addition, the benefits of blogging are massive

Apart from sharing information, you remember vital facts - facts that are relevant to youIt is rewarding - both educational and monetary gains.

Let's have a look at the 3 ways to make money online and how to monetise your work.

Three Ways to Make Money Online

Here are the practical tips to start earning some rewards online. Click on the links provided to explore the opportunities.

1. Start a Free/Paid blog

This blog is an example of a free blog, started in 2014. It took 2 years before we had good traffic to monetise.

Bear in mind that blogging is not for the faint-hearted and quick-reward-seeking opportunists. F
ocus on your interest. Make blogging a hobby and the rest will fall in place.

It will take years before you get good traffic/visitors and monetise your work.

We've got great Blogging Tips with pictures and guides here: How To Start a Personal Blog  & How to A Blog on Wordpress.

2. YouTube Channel

YouTube channels are a great way to showcase things you are good at.

Successful YouTubers are those that have the ability to make some 'boring subject' look amazing. If you are one of them, you can do that right now. Some examples are:
  • Gardening Hobbies
  • Musical/Singing Talents
  • Producing how-to videos
Videos eligible for monetisation are usually those that are unique. In fact, how-to and music videos are popular and get lots of views on YouTube.

The more videos and interest you generate from views and impressions will make you money.

To monetise you'll need at least 1000 subscribers and 4000 hours of watch time. That means that if you put in the work now, you can monetise your video in the next 12-24 months.

3. Write and Earn Money or Mobile Credits Online

PNG Insight is looking for writers to write interesting articles for us. You can make money online now by submitting your first article to us. Read about the PNG Writers' Initiative

Here are some of the works produced by PNG Writers. Take a look if you need inspiration.
Write for us today and earn cash or mobile phone credits - your choice! The contact email is info@pnginsight.com

Latest On YouTube - Monetise Shorts

If you love to share photos and short videos from your mobile phone, YouTube #Shorts is going to be your thing.

In 2023, YT will monetise those videos - check out how to get into the YouTube Partners Program for Shorts.

Two Ways to monetise a blog, website or YouTube

Two ways to monetise a blog and YouTube.

Setting up a blog, website or YouTube Channel is the first step - only the starting point.

As mentioned earlier, it can take years (if you are lucky, months) to fully monetise and start making money.

1. Amazon Associate Account - Worth Trying

Amazon associate program is one way to make money online. You can join and start immediately by referring your friends and visitors.

There are several platforms you can use to earn from Amazon. You can promote them via social networks like Twitter, Facebook, etc or on blogs and websites.

Amazon has an easy-to-use URL shortener and widgets to help you on your way to making extra money online.

Please note that not anyone can become Amazon Affiliate today. Amazon has changed its Terms and Conditions and therefore it has become difficult for people in certain countries like PNG to join the program.

However, Papua New Guineans living overseas (Australia, New Zealand or the US) can join the affiliate program and use it later.

2. AdSense - Takes Time But Works

AdSense is Google’s technology. It shows advertisements to customers. If they click on them, you make money.

The money you make online will depend on
  • how competitive visitors' keywords are;
  • how many people visit your website or view your YouTube video; and
  • the location of your visitors.
In fact, Google is paying you for space you make available for the advertisements and how many people are actively viewing the ads.

To get an Adsense account you have got to own a website, blog or YouTube channel. So, start now.

WordPress and Google Blogger are available options. I would recommend Blogger if you are starting off.

Passion for Personal Development

You can also use the opportunities to your advantage regardless of where you are, whether in PNG or overseas.

Start something you are passionate about and reward yourself for it.

Make no mistake, if you are thinking of making quick money online, you might as well try something else.

These four words of encouragement will help you to make blogging a successful hobby:
  • First, have a passion for what you do, and focus on the big picture instead of how much you make monthly.
  • Second, remind yourself that monetisation is normally done years after you started a blog.
  • Third, it will take a lot of time and effort, so be patient.
  • Finally, do not put your whole life into it – this is not a job to be serious with, let it be a hobby – let it be passive.

Be a successful young person

This is a collection of articles for making money by writing and building blogs or websites based on your passion. I repeat PASSION.

This blog is an example of using the free BLOGGER platform. You only need your Gmail Account to start a blog on Blogger.

If you have a talent for something or someone tells you that you are creative, these ideas will make you successful. CLICK ON THE LINKS TO GET FREE INFO.

PNG Independence Poem: What do the Colours Represent on the PNG Flag

In Papua New Guinea, where stories are spun,

Through colours on a flag, a tale's begun.

What do these hues symbolise, vibrant and bright?

Let's explore their meanings, in the flag's radiant light.

Yellow, a beacon of hope in the red's tight embrace,

The Bird of Paradise soars, with elegance and grace.

A tribute to wildlife, diversity's sweet song,

"Unity in Diversity," where we all belong.

Red, like tribal war shields, fierce and bold,

Signifies bravery, a spirit to behold.

A history of warriors, through challenges they'd steer,

In the red, their valour, forever sincere.

Black, the Melanesian people, proud and grand,

Their culture, traditions, a heritage so grand.

In this colour, their unique story takes flight,

A tapestry of tales, in the ebony night.

White stars in the night sky, forming Southern Cross,

Guiding travellers, no matter the loss.

A symbol of purity, friendship in its gleam,

In Papua New Guinea, it's more than it may seem.

Diagonal patterns, barter systems of old,

Where tribes exchanged goods, stories to be told.

Unity among groups, cooperation's decree,

In this flag's design, a harmonious sea.

And the shark's teeth, fierce and strong,

In Melanesian culture, where they've belonged so long.

Symbolising resilience, courage in each strife,

In Papua New Guinea, the heartbeat of life.

So, what do the colours on the PNG flag mean?

A history, a culture, in a vibrant display.

From red's brave embrace to unity's sweet grace,

This flag tells a story, for all to embrace.

In Papua New Guinea, where dreams take flight,

The flag stands tall, in the day and the night.

A tapestry of colours, a story unfolds,

Of a nation's past, present, where unity holds.

PNG Visa Online Auto-Grant Function Reactivated 2022

Minister for Immigration and Labour, Bryan Kramer, re-launched the auto-grant system (PNG Visa Online Service) to reduce the high volume of applications and improve turnaround time for clients.

PNG Online Visa Application
PNG Visa Online Auto-Grant Function Reactivated

Eligible applicants for PNG Visa Online

Kramer stated that the system is independent and will only be for selected visa classes including

  • Tourists (own itinerary and tour package),
  • visiting relative,
  • yacht person (crew and owner),
  • easy visitor permit (30/60 days) and
  • the Restricted Employment Visa.
The minister said...

“This system is now available. PNG Immigration have used it before during the APEC in 2018, the Women’s Soccer World Cup and the Pacific Games in Port Moresby to facilitate large volumes of delegates. I want to reactivate this in a similar way but with strict conditions attached to the auto-grant letters,”

PNG Visa Online fast approval

The auto-grant will allow tourists and visitors on short-term visits to get their visas granted immediately instead of waiting for seven days to get approval.

“The PNG Immigration and Citizenship Authority (ICA) will step up its compliance and enforcement efforts to ensure visitors are complying with the conditions set out in the auto-grant letters.

With limited staff on strength, I am taking this option so personnel in the department can concentrate on other visa categories that need careful assessment and consideration”.

The auto-granting of PNG Visa Online applications does not in any way compromise the integrity of the systems or pose security risks.

Difference between Matric rewrite and upgrade - Matric FAQs

In the context of South African schools, matric rewrite refers to the process of allowing a student who has failed their matric (the South African equivalent of the high school diploma) to retake the exams to obtain the diploma.

A matric upgrade, on the other hand, refers to the process of allowing a student who has passed their matric but not obtained the required grades to improve their results by taking additional subjects or retaking certain exams.

So in short, a Matric rewrite is a chance for students to re-write their matric examinations if they fail the first time. Matric upgrade is an opportunity for students who passed their matric but not with the required grades to improve their results by taking additional subjects or rewriting certain exams.

A new article is available here for the ''2024 Matric Results Release Dates'' and ''How to Check the Results via SMS/Online'', click here to find out.

Difference between matric rewrite and upgrade - Matric FAQs

What is the pass rate for matric with bachelor 2023- 2024? Find out here

Closing date for rewrite 2024

The closing date for matric rewrite in 2024 in South Africa is not yet announced. It would be best to check with the Department of Basic Education (or the specific school or education centre where you plan to take the matric rewrite) for the most up-to-date information on the application and registration process, as well as the closing date for submissions.

It's also worth noting that the closing date for matric rewrite registration may vary depending on the specific region or education system. So it's important to check with the relevant authorities for the most accurate information.

Disadvantages of matric rewrite

Time and cost: Matric rewrite can be time-consuming and costly. Students need to spend extra time preparing for the exams, which can delay their progress in further education or career. Additionally, students may have to pay additional fees for the exams and any related costs.

Emotional and psychological toll: The process of rewriting matric can be emotionally and psychologically taxing for students. Failing matric exams can be a significant setback and can cause feelings of disappointment, frustration, and anxiety. Additionally, the pressure to pass the exams on the second attempt can be stressful and can take a toll on a student's mental health.

Repeat a full year of schooling: It's also worth noting that, in some cases, students may have to repeat a full year of schooling in order to rewrite their matric exams, which can be a significant setback and can delay their progress in further education or career.

Where can I write my matric for free

In South Africa, some schools and education centres offer matric rewrite courses for free or at a reduced cost. The Department of Basic Education also provides financial assistance for students who are unable to afford the fees for matric rewrite.

Additionally, some non-profit organizations and charities in South Africa provide financial assistance for students who want to rewrite their matric exams. These organizations may offer scholarships, bursaries, or other forms of financial aid to help cover the cost of the exams.

It would be best to check with the Department of Basic Education or your local school or education centre for information on financial assistance and free matric rewrite programs in your area.

It's important to note that the availability of free matric rewrite programs may vary depending on the region or education system, so it's best to check with the relevant authorities for the most up-to-date information.

What happens when you upgrade your matric results and fail?

If you upgrade your matric results and fail, you may have to retake the subjects you failed in order to qualify for a National Senior Certificate (matric). Depending on the institution you are upgrading at and the subjects you failed, you may have to retake the entire year or only specific subjects.

If you are unable to pass the subjects you failed, you may be able to apply to study at a Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) college or seek other alternative educational or career paths.

It's always important to check and confirm with the institution you are upgrading at, as well as your desired University or college, regarding their policies and requirements regarding upgrading and failing.

How to check matric rewrite results online

There are a few ways to check your matric rewrite results online in South Africa. One way is to visit the website of the Department of Basic Education (DBE) and check the National Senior Certificate (NSC) examination results. Here are the steps you can follow:

  • Go to the DBE website at https://www.education.gov.za/
  • Click on the "Examination Results" link on the homepage
  • Select "National Senior Certificate (NSC) examination results"
  • Select the "Rewrite" option from the drop-down menu
  • Enter your examination number and click on the "Search" button
Alternatively, you can check your matric rewrite results online on the website of the Independent Examinations Board (IEB) which is responsible for conducting the matric exams for private schools in South Africa.

  • Go to the IEB website at http://www.ieb.co.za
  • Click on the "Examination Results" link
  • Select "Matric Results"
  • Enter your examination number and click on the "Search" button
It is also possible to check your matric rewrite results on your school website or with your school principal, as they also receive the results.

Please note that these are the general steps, but it is always recommended to check the specific website of the institution where you wrote the exams, as they could have different procedures.

PNG Independence Poem 2023

In the heart of the Pacific's embrace,

A nation emerged with dignity and grace,

From prehistoric past to destiny unknown,

Papua New Guinea, a land to call its own.

In '73, self-governance they'd declare,

A people united, a vision to share,

On that December day, their journey would start,

Towards full independence, with hope in their heart.

In '75, the flag was unfurled,

As PNG joined the nations of the world,

With Somare, their leader, the "father" they'd name,

Guiding them through the path to acclaim.

Through the '70s, early years they'd explore,

Facing challenges they'd never seen before,

Economic hurdles and political strife,

Yet forging ahead, determined for life.

Julius Chan, Pius Wingti, leaders of might,

Nurtured a nation, through day and night,

In '89, Bougainville's conflict would arise,

Testing their strength, under New Guinea Island's skies.

Mekere Morauta, Sir Rabbie Namaliu's grace,

Led with transparency, in this challenging place,

Bill Skate's charisma, though controversy would flow,

Development, they'd strive for, with each new blow.

Peter O'Neill's era, infrastructure's grand feat,

But controversies and challenges kept them on their feet,

Then came Marape, with unity in sight,

To address education, healthcare's plight.

Earthquakes would tremble, in twenty-eighteen,

Testing their spirit, resilient and keen,

While student's riots in '09's May,

Showed strength in diversity, in their own way.

Bougainville, its journey to independence, nears,

As PNG's history continues through the years,

In twenty-twenty, they'll navigate the tide,

With hope and courage, side by side.

In twenty-twenty-three, PNG stands tall,

A nation diverse, united for all,

Their story of struggle and progress they claim,

On Independence Day, they honour their name.

Papua New Guinea, a land of a thousand tougues,

A nation that's risen to every new height,

With hope in their hearts, and dreams to pursue,

On Independence Day, they salute the red, black, and gold.

Should Marijuana (Cannabis) Be Legalised in Papua New Guinea

Marijuana, also known as cannabis, is a drug that is derived from the Cannabis sativa plant. In recent years, there has been a growing debate on the legalisation of marijuana, with many countries around the world taking steps towards decriminalisation or full legalisation.

Papua New Guinea's (PNG) potential to grow Cannabis as a cash crop is there, but there are very few arguments for and against the legalisation of marijuana in this country. So we ask, 'Should Marijuana (Cannabis) Be Legalised in Papua New Guinea?'

Here are some arguments for and against decriminalising and or legalising the cultivation and selling of Cannabis. (Leave a comment about what you think).

Pros of Legalising Marijuana in PNG

Market Size:

Legalising marijuana in PNG could create a new market for the plant. With a population of over 8 million people, there is a potential market for both recreational and medical marijuana.

According to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, Papua New Guinea is one of the largest producers of cannabis in the Asia-Pacific region, and this could be an opportunity to capitalise on that market.

Health Benefits:

Marijuana has been found to have various medicinal properties that can help in the treatment of certain conditions such as chronic pain, epilepsy, and multiple sclerosis.

Legalising marijuana would make it easier for those who need it for medical purposes to access it legally.

Revenue Generation:

Legalising marijuana in PNG could also generate revenue for the government through taxes and fees.

In states where marijuana is legal in the United States, for example, there has been a significant increase in tax revenue. This additional revenue could be used to fund various government programs, including healthcare and education.

Potential Cash Crop:

Marijuana is a high-value crop that could become a major cash crop for PNG farmers.

By legalising marijuana, local farmers could benefit from increased demand and higher prices for their crops. This could help boost the local economy and create jobs in the agricultural sector.

Should Marijuana (Cannabis) Be Legalised in Papua New Guinea

Cons of Legalising Marijuana in PNG

Health Risks:

While marijuana has been found to have some health benefits, it also has risks associated with its use. These include addiction, impaired cognitive function, and respiratory problems.

If marijuana is legalised in PNG, there will need to be measures put in place to mitigate these risks, such as age restrictions and quality control.

Crime and Black Market:

Legalising marijuana could also lead to an increase in crime and the black market.

Criminal organisations may continue to traffic marijuana to areas where it is still illegal or where it can be sold at a higher price. This could lead to increased violence and other criminal activities.

For example, a recent report indicated that cannabis-use data from Australia’s national organised crime-fighting agency shows that criminal groups grab $25 billion a year from cannabis in Australia. That's how much money that's circulating underground, un-taxed. Imagine taking that off organised crime and taxing it for public services.

Negative Impact on Villagers and Local Farmers:

While legalising marijuana could benefit local farmers, it could also have negative impacts on villagers and small-scale farmers.

Large corporations could move in and dominate the market, pushing out local growers and taking control of the industry.

Tourism:

While marijuana is a popular tourist attraction in some areas, legalising it in PNG could also have negative impacts on tourism. Some tourists may be put off by the idea of marijuana being legal, and it could also give the country a negative image.

Examples of Places where Marijuana is Legal

There are a number of countries and states where marijuana has been legalised or decriminalised.

In the United States, for example, marijuana has been legalised for recreational use in 15 states and the District of Columbia.

It is also legal for medical use in many other states.

Other countries that have legalised marijuana for recreational use include Canada, Uruguay, and South Africa.

Growing and Selling Marijuana

Growing and selling marijuana is a complex process that requires knowledge and expertise. Marijuana plants need specific growing conditions, including adequate light, temperature, and humidity. They also need to be fertilised and protected from pests and diseases.

Selling marijuana legally requires a license and compliance with government regulations.

Legalising Marijuana in PNG

The legalisation of marijuana in Papua New Guinea has both pros and cons. While it could create a new market, generate revenue, and have health benefits, it could also lead to health risks, crime, and negative impacts on local farmers and villagers.

If marijuana is legalised, there will need to be measures put in place to ensure that the industry is regulated and that the risks are mitigated.

One potential solution could be to follow the examples of countries and states where marijuana has already been legalised. The government could create regulations to control the production, sale, and distribution of marijuana, while also putting in place measures to protect public health and safety. This could include age restrictions, quality control, and licensing requirements.

In addition, the government could work with local farmers and communities to ensure that they benefit from the legalisation of marijuana. This could include providing education and training on growing and selling marijuana, as well as creating opportunities for local farmers to sell their crops legally.

Conclusion

Overall, the decision to legalise marijuana in Papua New Guinea is a complex issue that requires careful consideration of both the benefits and the risks.

With the right policies and regulations in place, however, it is possible that the legalisation of marijuana could be a positive development for the country, creating new opportunities for economic growth and public health.

Meaning of Papua New Guinea's Flag (PNG Independence Poem)

In Papua New Guinea's flag unfurled with pride,

A story of history, culture, and dreams resides.

With colours and symbols, it does proclaim,

The essence of this nation, its cherished name.

Two triangles, red and black, side by side,

Melanesian spirit within them does abide.

Black for the people, their heritage and pride,

Rich traditions and identity, they can't hide.

Red, like war shields and body paint so bold,

Signifying bravery, the stories of old.

The warrior spirit that in history did unfold,

In the hearts of its people, a tale to be told.

Within the red triangle, the Bird of Paradise so fair,

A symbol of wildlife and beauty beyond compare.

With tribal art-inspired grace in the air,

Unity in diversity, a message to declare.

"Unity in Diversity," the national motto's embrace,

A reminder of the various ethnic groups in this place.

Harmonious coexistence, in every case,

Amongst the tribes and cultures, a shared space.

In the black half, stars of white shining bright,

The Southern Cross guides, day and night.

For travelers, trade, and seasons' light,

A connection to tradition, pure and right.

The diagonal pattern, a fascinating trace,

From barter systems, it finds its place.

Friendship and alliance in every embrace,

Among diverse groups, it leaves its trace.

The Shark's Teeth, a symbol of might,

In Melanesian culture, courage takes flight.

Strength and resilience, in challenges' sight,

A token of endurance, shining so bright.

PNG flag, a tapestry so grand,

A story of a nation's history, it does command.

From bravery to unity, it stands hand in hand,

Papua New Guinea's past, present, and future, so grand.
