University of Goroka Released Non-School Leavers Acceptance List for 2024

The University of Goroka (UOG) has recently released the non-school leavers acceptance list 2024. The list has the names of the undergraduate and postgraduate students who successfully gained admission for the academic year 2024. Prospecting students to the UOG-Goroka campus, UOG-Enga and UOG-Sepik Campuses can now check their names.

The UOG acceptance list for 2024 appeared in the Post Courier on the 16th of January 2024. Students can also access it on the official University of Goroka website, www.unigoroka.ac.pg. Students are encouraged to confirm their inclusion on the list, before making necessary arrangements for the upcoming academic year.

Acceptance Letters and Next Steps

Acceptance letters for the selected non-school leavers will be dispatched on time, offering them a formal acknowledgement of their admission. These individuals must act promptly upon confirming their names on the University's acceptance list, paving the way for a seamless transition into the academic year.

New students, including successful non-school leavers, will partake in the orientation and registration process scheduled from the 5th to the 11th of February 2024. This orientation aims to familiarise them with the University's environment and facilitate a smooth transition into academic life.


School Fee Payments

For smooth registration, it is essential for all students, including successful non-school leavers, to settle outstanding 2023 tuition fees along with the COMPULSORY FEE Component for 2024. 

Meeting the payment deadline of Monday, 5th February 2024. This also ensures your eligibility for the HELP Loan Scheme application.

NSL Application Form 2024 and Process

The application form for DWU can be obtained by downloading it from the official website of Divine Word University.

For individuals living in remote areas, the application form can be sent upon request. 

Note that the application forms will not be sent to current Grade 12 students who sit the Higher School Certificate Examination. - This program is non-clinical, and students with a background in Social Science subjects are encouraged to apply.


2. Bachelor of Health Sciences (Rural Health):

- Requires a minimum of "B" grade average in Language and Literature, Advanced Mathematics or General Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics or Applied Science at Grade 12 level or equivalent.

- Applicants who upgraded their marks must score a "B" average in the required Science subjects taken and have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 and above.

- Nurses and Community Health Workers (CHWs) below the age of 30 years who have upgraded their Grade 12 grades to a "B" average are given preference.

- All applicants must provide a current character reference from a recognized community leader and an academic reference from the school they last attended.

- Nurses and CHWs currently employed must provide a support or endorsement letter from their current employer.

- All applicants must provide a 500-word explanation on how gaining this training will contribute to the development of the country and the health sector.


3. Bachelor of Environmental Health

 - Requires a minimum of "B" grade in Language and Literature, "B" grade or better in General Mathematics (Maths B) or "C" grade or better in Advanced Mathematics (Maths A), and "B" grade or better in Chemistry, Physics, and Biology at Grade 12 level or equivalent.


4. Bachelor of Physiotherapy:

- Requires Grade 12 level and a minimum of "B" grades in Language and Literature, Mathematics, and Science.

- Applicants must have at least two (2) years' work experience in rehabilitation and submit a recommendation from their supervising physiotherapist.

- Applicants must also submit a supervised English essay explaining their interest in the Physiotherapy program.

- Preferences are given to Physiotherapy aides, nurses, and Health Extension Officers with experience and exposure in rehabilitation services.


5. Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery:

- Candidates applying for this program will be subject to sit for an entrance exam as part of the selection process.

- The selection is based on the results of the entrance exam, including Language and Literature, Advanced Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.

- Applicants who can provide a valid, signed contract to work in a rural hospital after graduation receive bonus points.

- An exam fee must be paid to sit the exam, and a separate NSL Application Fee must be paid when lodging the Non-School Leaver Application.


6. Advanced Diploma in Eye Care:

- This program is offered to Nurses and Health Extension Officers with a diploma as their minimum qualification.

- Applicants must be currently registered practitioners with the Nursing Council of PNG or the Medical Board of PNG, respectively.

- Candidates preferably must have a minimum of 2 years work experience in any healthcare setting with observation in the eye clinic or attachment to the eye clinic for at least 2 months.

- Applicants must provide a current character reference from a recognized community leader and a professional reference from their immediate supervisor.

- Applicants must also provide a support or endorsement letter from their current employer.

- All applicants must provide a 500-word explanation of how this additional qualification will enhance their current practice.

Apply for the MBBS program at DWU as an NSL

To apply for the MBBS program at DWU, non-school leaver candidates are required to complete the application form provided by the university.

Along with the application form, candidates are required to pay a non-refundable application fee of K400. 

This fee includes a K100 administration fee and a K300 exam fee. The payment should be made to the DWU BSP Account, A/c No.1000 433806, Madang Branch. The receipt of payment must be attached to the application form for it to be processed.


Selection Process

Candidates applying for the MBBS program will be subject to an entrance exam as part of the selection process. 

A non-refundable exam fee of K300 is charged, and this fee must be paid to sit the exam. 

The selection is competitive and based on the results of the entry exam, which consists of five subjects: 

  • Language and Literature (20%), 
  • Advanced Mathematics (20%), 
  • Biology (25%), 
  • Chemistry (25%), and 
  • Physics (10%).


Bonus Points

After completing their residency, applicants who have signed a contract with a rural hospital to work for a few years in a rural area will be awarded bonus points. 

These bonus points can enhance the chances of being selected for the program.


Ranking and Acceptance

Successful candidates will be ranked based on their exam results. Only the top 15 candidates will be accepted into the MBBS program. 

It is important to perform well in the entry exam to increase the chances of being ranked high and securing a spot in the program.

Bachelor of Education in School Management (Secondary/Primary – In-service)

The Bachelor of Education in School Management program is designed for teachers who are currently serving or recently served as principals of schools in the PNG school system or similar. 

Experienced senior teachers or aspiring teachers with proven potential to hold leadership roles in schools are also eligible for the program. 

To apply for the program, applicants must hold a Diploma in Education or a related teaching field (secondary, primary, or vocational & technical education). 

Special considerations are given to female teachers and teachers from rural and remote schools. 

The program runs for 4 to 8 semesters.


Bachelor of Tourism and Hospitality Management

The Bachelor of Tourism and Hospitality Management program is designed for students who want to pursue a career in tourism and hospitality management. 

Applicants must have completed Grade 12 with a minimum GPA of 2.4 or equivalent from recognized institutions. 

Applicants must also have:

  • a C or better in Language and Literature, or a B in Applied English, 
  • a C in Advanced Mathematics, or a B in General Mathematics, and 
  • a C grade or better in Science or Humanities subjects in Year 12 is required. 
Applicants must also sit and pass the STAT P / entry test. The program runs for 8 to 12 semesters.


Diploma in Early Childhood Education

The Diploma in Early Childhood Education program is designed for individuals who want to pursue a career in early childhood education. 

To apply for the program, applicants must have completed Grade 12 with a minimum GPA of 2.4 on the HSC from recognized institutions. 

They must also have:

  • a C grade or better in Language and Literature or a B grade in Applied English
  • a B grade in General Mathematics or C grade in Advance Mathematics is required,
  • hold a certificate in Early Childhood Education from recognized institutions and provide references (both character and professional) within the last five years from the date of application. 
Official Police and Medical clearances must be attached. 

Applicants with experience in childcare activities, including First Aid, are preferred. They must also sit and pass the STAT P / entry test. The program runs for 4 to 8 semesters.


Diploma in Business Accounting

The Diploma in Business Accounting program is designed for individuals who want to pursue a career in accounting. 

To apply for the program, applicants must have completed Grade 12 with a minimum GPA of 2.4 on the HSC from recognized institutions. 

Applicants must have 

  • a B grade or better in Language and Literature or an A grade in Applied English, 
  • a B grade in General Mathematics or C grade in Advance Mathematics, and 
  • a C grade or better in Accounting or Business Studies is required. 
Professional references within the last five years from the date of application are also required. 

Applicants who are currently serving are exempted from the STAT P / entry test. 

The program runs for 4 to 8 semesters.


Diploma in Business Management

The Diploma in Business Management program offered by the Institute of Distance and Flexible Learning at the University of Goroka is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills required to succeed in the field of business management.
