As for the School Leavers selections for 2023, here is what DHERST said...

Post-selection is still in progress through the National Admission Pool. Eligible students who did not secure a space on the selection launching day should check your NOAS account on a regular basis to see whether or not you have been sent an offer by an institution. Should you find an offer in your NOAS account, kindly accept or decline the offer by clicking on the relevant button.

DHERST TESAS (HECAS & AES) and HELP Notice

Here is what DHESRT said about the PNG government scholarships, TESAS and HELP...

The TESAS list will be published on the 3rd week of January 2023 and the TESAS Scholarship Offer Letter will be provided to the TESAS awardees by DHERST through your respective NOAS account. If you find your name under a TESAS scholarship (AES or HECAS) category, make sure to access your NOAS account to accept the terms and conditions of your TESAS scholarship.

The Higher Education Loan Programme (HELP) is available to all students regardless of whether you are on TESAS or not. To be eligible for the loan, interested applicants must become registered students by complying with the tertiary institutions' admission or registration policies.

What does TESAS mean?

TESAS stands for Tertiary Education Students Assistance Scheme. There are two categories of TESAS. See this post for more info on TESAS

Perhaps it is important that new and continuing students at all the tertiary institutions inPNG are up-to-date the changes that are happening at present. Especially, the changes to TESAS and the introduction of the HELP student loan scheme.

One suggestion is to check the latest updates on the HELP scheme at DHERST website. The department has some updates on the changes in higher education tuition and the purported student loan scheme. Here is an online news article by NBC News (Reposted) - READ MORE. Some key points are listed in bullet points below.

2024 Non-school leavers (apply directly to the universities)

Be reminded that at the beginning of a new academic year, many of the undergrad study programs in-country would have been filled by the  Grade 12 intakes.

That means that any Grade 12 students from the last five years (with good grades, or upgraded grades, who wish to apply directly to the universities) may have to wait until June or July 2023 to apply to the universities for consideration in the 2024 academic year.

The post-grad students - both part-time and full-time - have this time before the academic year 2024 starts to apply. To download application forms or apply online to one of the six universities in PNG, follow the quick and direct links.
